CARIBANA KING & QUEEN SHOW
EventDetails
Caribana King and Queen Show @ Lamport Stadium
The King and Queen show has traditionally kicked off the Toronto Caribana Festival weekend every year since the beginning. On Thursday July 28th, the leaders of the Caribana Parade's Mas bands will put on their showcase costumes and perform for the Parade judges and an enthusiastic crowd at Lamport Stadium. Male and female competitors are judged on the details of costumes, how that costume represents the theme the mas bands will perform during the 2011 Caribana Parade and the performance of the leader. At the end of the night, the King and Queen are crowned.
Interesting Historical Fact: In 1971, Clive Brand took the competition to a whole new level. Lighting flares, to better display the intricacies of his elaborate costume, Clive inadvertently lit his very expensive outfit on fire. He was forced to rip it off mid-performance and throw it into Lake Ontario! That night Clive Brand won the honour of being crowned Caribana King 1971. Awesome!
The 2011 Caribana King and Queen Show fires up Thursday, July 28th from 9pm - Midnight at Lamport Stadium (1151 King Street West, Toronto). Doors open at 7pm.

Dissatisfied Supporter said on Jul. 29, 2011:
I am extremely annoyed that I paid $30 for advanced tickets to the King & Queen completion for five people, and we all had to stand for the entire completion!! This event has been taking place for many years, and the coordinators should be intelligent enough to know that more seating is needed!! It is unfair to pay $30 or $38 dollar for a ticket to an event and have to stand for 3-5 hours, especially with children!!! Both sides of the stadium should be available for seating. It’s better to have extra seating, then not enough seating!!! If this does not IMPROVE for 2012, I will boycott this event, and I urge other people from the Caribbean community to do the same!! Scotia Bank will start to accommodate there consumers when they start to lose money due to a lack of support!!!

Hi all,
What is the price for children tickets? -

I think its about time a new venue is found for this event. This event could b far more successful in a enclosed venue.

It appears that the forecast for the King & Queen competition is not in our favour this year...rain all day long. Since this will be held at Lamport Stadium (an open topped stadium), will the competition still take place if it's soggy indoors or still raining in the evening/night?
